Theatre del Giglio

Giglio, always artistic and cultural landmark of the city of Lucca, in 1985 he received recognition for traditional theaters. His birth dates back more than three centuries ago when the Council of the Republic of Lucca established by decree a public theater that had an intense attitività artists over the centuries.


Throughout the nineteenth century the Giglio Theater hosted the best companies in the Italian scene: concerts, dances, variety and, above all, melodrama followed each other on stage and the most celebrated names of the time (the standard Tacchinardi the Duprez, the soprano Maria Malibran ...) were to perform on the small stage. The same Giacomo Puccini (the great composer who is known, is originally from Lucca) came to Lucca to oversee the work of the staging of some of his works.
The activity of the Teatro del Giglio is divided into seasons. Among these most important of the Opera season and commitment that, by custom, opened the theater season from the month of September, the long winter months until late spring season is winding prose, the Season of Dance and Symphony Season.


The Teatro del Giglio also undertakes training initiatives and workshops aimed at schools and dedicated to the public of the smaller shows an overview of "Children's theater" normally coinciding with the school year. Each education and training activities is its natural intelligence support in the Library which is housed in the building of the theater itself and offers a consultation service and lending to those who want to explore every kind of knowledge and research into the entertainment world.


The theater is working with the Centro Studi G. Puccini for the design and implementation of 'Project Puccini' promoted by the city of Lucca to celebrate and explore in their music productions and initiatives for research and study the work of the great composer Giacomo Puccini in Lucca.

 

Inside the theater is also the company of the Teatro Del hospitality cart with which the Teatro del Giglio, twenty years, co-produced popular shows around the world such as Snow White, Romeo and Juliet, Iliad, Dream of a Midsummer Night, Bella and the Beast, Odyssey and Pinocchio.
